Met On Mutual: Adam & Emily

I was taking a Marriage Prep class at BYU because I had heard it was a fun elective and very informative (which it was!). Many of our assignments were to go on dates but I didn’t have any friends at BYU yet and had nobody to go with. I decided to download Mutual to go on some dates and complete some assignments. I went on over 30 dates with little success. I was about to delete the app when I matched with Adam in January of 2020.

Our first date was at Denny’s and it was wonderful! We immediately connected and had so many random things in common. The date went well, but I told him I had to go by a certain time. He asked why and I said that I was going swing dancing after our date. He said, “I’ve always wanted to go to that! I would love to come.” Unbeknownst to him, I was going swing dancing that night as a date with a different guy that I had gone on a few dates with. I said, “Oh um, maybe next week!” He took that as a sign that I didn’t really like him, but I totally did! After swing dancing, I told the guy I went on a few dates with that I wasn’t interested in pursuing a relationship with him.

A couple days later, my brother was coming into town from Idaho. He didn’t visit often and when I told him about how much I liked Adam, my brother begged me to invite him to our family dinner that following Sunday. I felt it was too soon for him to meet my family, but invited him anyway. The night before the dinner, we had our second date at an ice-cream shop, so this family dinner was our third date. After that, we met up almost every single day even though I lived in Provo and he lived in American Fork.

A few weeks later, the day after Valentine’s Day, we became official. He then flew to Wisconsin with me over Thanksgiving break and met my parents. It was then that he asked my dad to marry me and then proposed on Christmas Day. We then got married and sealed in the Provo City Center Temple on April 9, 2021. We are so happy and grateful to have met through Mutual!
