If you told me a year ago that I would have been engaged to the man of my dreams I would have laughed in your face. If you would have told me that I met this man using Mutual, I would have scoffed!
After a sketchy dating app experience my freshman year of college, I promised myself that I would never use a dating app again. Fast forward 3 years later. I am an opera student at Brigham Young University. My best friend told me that she was engaged, and she met her man on a dating app. The wheels start turning, and let’s face it, I wasn’t going to meet anyone by practicing in my practice room all day.
When I started going on dates with people I met from the app I was surprised how down to earth and good some of the men I met were. I was actually starting to date some of them a little more seriously. But I remember clearly getting a feeling that I needed to check my account. That was the night I came across Braedan’s account. His movie star good looks were attention grabbing, but the fact that he was a returned missionary from Norway really captured my interest. I served my mission in Sweden and my dream was to date someone who could speak a Scandinavian language with me. I swiped up. Match. One flick of my hand changed my life. Pretty soon after that we started talking. Things were going smoothly, too smoothly. The plot thickens when I find out he is living in California. Doubts of us ever working out began to rise. I put my guards up. However, those walls crumbled to the ground the first time we FaceTimed. After a three hour call I knew that I had talked to my future husband. Little did I know that he felt the same way. After weeks of FaceTiming, we finally met in person. We looked around Temple Square and looked at the radiant Christmas lights. The first time we held hands and kissed happened on that first in-person date. He was only visiting Utah for 5 days. We spent every day together those 5 days. By day 5, New Years Day, our news resolution became marriage. We both got the confirmation that we were right for each other. He was the other part of me I didn’t know I was missing.
Nothing was harder than saying goodbye to the love of my life. However, our love burned brighter than our fears of what the future would bring. We were determined to make a long distance relationship work. After a few more long weeks. Braedan came back to Utah for Valentines weekend. He came the 13th, and he proposed that night, the date of when we first FaceTimed.
I could not have asked for a better dream to come true. He is better than any Prince Charming, knight in shining armor. He is sincere and he is kind. He treats me like a queen.
Do you never know, one swipe up could change your life forever. It changed ours!
