Tyler & Randi: The Daily Note That Changed Everything

Randi’s version of the story:

Tyler and I met in a singles ward a year prior to our first date. I don’t remember the interaction but Tyler did as I was sitting with a friend of mine who happened to be the younger sister of a friend of his. He debated asking me out on a date for the 7 months I was in that ward but he never did as he thought I had too many people interested in me. Which wasn’t true, I just kept everyone busy by creating lots of fun things to do for anyone who was interested in joining in.

However, when I moved away, I found myself bored again as I didn’t have anyone to create fun events for. I tossed around the idea of dating – I was terrified of it from multiple negative experiences – and decided to download mutual, mostly with the goal of making a large friend group again to go country swing dancing with, or have bonfires like I used to!

As I was swiping through I noticed a note from Tyler. It said we were in the same ward a while back and to let him know if I’d be interested in going on a date. As weird as it sounds (remember, I’m terrified of dating) The Spirit told me I needed to go! We went on our first date to Good Move Cafe where rules of Phase 10 were debated, and the Spirit once intervened and pointed out that I wasn’t scared or nervous around him.

This lead us to another few dates where Tyler and I both received a prompting that, if we choose, this was the person we should marry.

Two and a half years later, and we are still arguing about phase 10 but this time with a 1 year old little boy. 🙂

Tyler’s version of the story:

I was feeling a little bit lonely in my new singles ward because I didn’t know anybody. One day, my friend’s sister came into church and I decided to go sit by her because I recognized her. As I was talking to her, I noticed her friend sitting next to her. I decided her friend had to be the most beautiful girl in the ward- maybe even the world.

I was nervous to ask Randi out though because she seemed so popular and was always talking to a bunch of guys. Then one day I saw on Facebook that she had moved somewhere else, I had missed my chance.

One day while swiping through some mutual profiles, I saw Randi’s profile pop up, and I knew I had to use my free daily note. I just let her know that I was in her old ward and that I would love to go on a date sometime if she was interested.

To my surprise, she responded and said yes! We did argue over Phase 10 rules, and I’m pretty sure I was right.

After our 3rd date I went to lunch with my dad and I asked him, “is it too early to know that I’m going to marry her?” And he simply said “you know.” We started spending more time together and I even left my old job to start working for her dad’s construction business.

After some ups and downs, and a few months period of being broken up, we were finally sealed together for eternity in the temple in 2021. Now we also have the best 1-year old baby boy.

Even though we didn’t first meet on mutual, I’m super grateful I sent my daily note to her.
