We matched and messages for about a month before making plans to meet up. I bailed on him the first two times we made plans and left him waiting for me at the park all dressed up nicely in the cold for over two hours! I finally messaged him again two days after that to apologize, and we kind of left it there thinking that was it. About a week later I spontaneously invited him to a Halloween Latin dance party I was going to with all 7 of my roommates because I remembered he was a dancer too and he’d asked me about where he could dance in Rexburg since he wasn’t from here. And he surprisingly said yes! So after making him wait two hours longer than I’d told him we’d be (because my roommates took forever to get ready) we picked him up and met him for the first time with my two best friends in the car. We went to two parties that night, dressed in our Halloween costumes as Mavis and a Ravenclaw, then went to McDonald’s with two of my roommates/best friends when we got done at around 2AM. I ended up inviting him to another Latin Halloween party my roommates were dragging me to the next night. We had our first kiss that night after hanging back at my apartment with everyone for a couple hours. Then I practically ghosted him for the next couple days. I’d been going on dates with another guy at the time who’d told me we wouldn’t work out before I met Elmar, and then when I was going on my first date with him, the other guy messaged me and said he did want to be with me, so I was conflicted. After two days of ghosting him, Elmar texted me and asked if he could call me. I almost said no, but last minute decided to hear him out. That phone call ended up being the deciding factor for me, and I realized he was someone I wanted to give it a try with. We went on another group date with my roommates on Halloween day and both became very infatuated with each other. The rest is history. We started hanging out almost every day. My roommates all loved him and were close with him, I met his brother who ended up referring me to his workplace at the hospital where I got the best job opportunity, and he met my parents and sisters who all loved him. Elmar had to go to Florida for a couple weeks later on to spend time with his family so we did long distance. Then his brother surprised me with plane tickets to go join him for a couple days. I met his parents, older sister and brother and law, and niece and nephew. On my last day there, we all went to the beach to take photos and have a picnic. Elmar proposed on the beach at sunset with his family there to support and document it.
