Met on Mutual: Jonathan + Gretchen

I had been praying for someone who loves God and when I saw her, I felt a quiet confirmation to swipe up. I also fell in love with her eyes and her smile.

Our first date was simple but unforgettable—we went to a Salvadoran restaurant that meant a lot to me, and the fact that she suggested it made it even more special. After that, we stopped by McDonald’s to grab some drinks—she got an ice cream, and I got a frozen Fanta—and then we headed to a nearby park just to talk and get to know each other better. Honestly, it felt like time froze there—we laughed, talked, and shared so much about our lives that we didn’t even realize how fast the hours were passing. I remember we didn’t even have dinner that night because we were so caught up talking and laughing. I couldn’t stop noticing her smile, her eyes, and the way she sees life… and in that moment, I leaned in and stole a kiss. We were both a little nervous—our hands were even trembling—but everything still felt so natural, peaceful, and real, like we had known each other for much longer than just one day. And that was just the beginning of many more dates to come. 💫

Before we met, our experience on Mutual felt frustrating and discouraging. We had both tried more than once, but nothing seemed to work. Most profiles didn’t feel right for either of us. Even without knowing each other yet, we were both going through something very similar.

I come from Salvadoran parents, so my values and culture have always been very important to me, especially when thinking about building a future with someone. She, on the other hand, was raised in Utah, with her own strong foundation of faith, family, and values—and in a beautiful way, even though our backgrounds were different, what we were looking for was exactly the same: something real, meaningful, and centered in God.

We were both close to giving up, but on what felt like our last attempt, we each decided to subscribe to the app and give it one final try. During that time, we were both praying—individually—asking Heavenly Father to guide us to someone who truly loves Him, someone with strong values and a desire for an eternal family. And that’s when we found each other.

I still remember the first message I sent her: “I’ve been praying for a meaningful connection—and seeing your profile felt like part of that answer. Would you like to get to know each other?” And then she replied in such a warm and genuine way: “Hi Jonathan 😊 I read on your bio that you enjoy cooking. What are your favorite types of foods and meals?” From that very first exchange, everything felt different. Our conversations flowed so naturally, starting with simple things like food and turning into deep, meaningful talks where we shared our lives, goals, and testimonies.

When we finally met, that connection only grew stronger—it felt peaceful, real, and guided. From that day on, we talked every single day and saw each other every weekend, growing closer not just to each other but also to God. Over time, that friendship turned into love, and I knew she was the one I had been praying for. And we both felt that this was something special.

I proposed on January 14th, 2026, and it was one of the most emotional moments of our lives. We were both so nervous, our hands literally shaking. I had decorated my apartment beautifully, trying to make everything feel special and unforgettable. Then, in that moment, I got down on one knee, my heart racing, and asked her to spend forever with me. And on March 14th, 2026, we were sealed in the temple for time and all eternity.

Today, we are happily building our life together in Texas, grateful for everything that brought us to this point. Now, we both feel so grateful to have found each other—the love of our lives—and we dream about building a beautiful, loving family together. Looking back, we can see that God was preparing both of us the whole time because what we found wasn’t just love, it was something eternal. 💍✨
