Twas the night before Christmas and I swiped on my phone,
Looking for something to make me not feel alone.
My stocking was hung by the chimney with care,
But it looked so lonely hanging there.
My family was out and my friends were together,
But my dating life was a bleak as the weather.
Mama kept nagging, asking for grandbabies,
I only shrugged and said “someday, maybe.”
But I just couldn’t seem to find the one,
They were either too serious or only wanted some fun.
As I sat and I moped, I heard such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
I peeked out the window and realized with awe,
There was no possible way I was seeing what I saw.
A sleigh! And reindeer! And Santa too!
This was either magic or the result of too much Mtn. Dew.
I pulled out my phone, to record the proof,
But when I looked up, they were gone in a poof.
I ran outside to see where they’d gone,
But only saw hoofprints out there on the lawn.
A deep voice called me and I turned around,
And saw it was Santa who had made the sound.
He patted the empty spot beside him,
So I sat down, as I warily eyed him.
He said nothing more but showed me his phone,
Opening an app as the LED shone.
“Mutual” it said, and I realized with a smile,
Santa had made me a dating profile!
I rolled my eyes and pushed it aside,
“Really Santa?” I said, “You think I haven’t tried?”
“This one is different” he said with a wink,
“These people are more like you than you think.”
So I took a look, and I started to swipe,
And to my surprise, I saw someone my type!
I looked up to tell him “I’ll give it a try,”
But saw only reindeer disappeering in the sky.
I looked back down as a notification pinged,
“It’s mutual!” it said, and my heart started to sing.
I sent them a message, they messaged back right away,
I thought, “maybe this dating thing isn’t as bad as they say.”
I continued to message and continued to swipe,
And found myself doing so late into the night.
The next morning I woke, my phone flat on my face,
My memories of last night all over the place.
Was it just a dream? Or had Santa been here?
Surely those reindeer hadn’t appeared.
But my phone chimed, and I saw the update,
Someone had messaged, and wanted a date!
I smiled and decided, magic or not,
The gift of Mutual was the best one I got.
